There are many good reasons to sign up for language classes. It's fun. Your child will acquire new skills in another language. You'll learn something new, too. And, wait until you travel! Three of the most important reasons to start young are below.
Biologically Ready: The brain is primed to acquire language by the age of 4; research shows that babies are at the peak at ages 6-12mths. If you live in certain areas of Switzerland, chances are good that your child speaks several languages. And, if you live in China, learning a tonal language comes naturally. The brain focuses on sounds, then syntax, then vocabulary in the language it's bathed in. We will give your child's brain a nice bath, and make language learning natural.
Cognitive Benefits: Learning a second language has been shown to be good for the brain. Studies have found higher math scores, higher verbal scores, higher social studies scores and higher SAT scores for children who study another language. It's even been shown that bilingual adults suffer less dementia than their monolingual counterparts!
World Citizens: Around the age of 10, children go through a developmental stage where they accept what is familiar and turn away from what is different. By making other language and culture a part of your child's life from a young age, you're more likely to get a teenager who embraces it, too.
We currently offer Mandarin classes for very young children (under age 6) who have had no previous experience in Mandarin Chinese.
Our classes emphasize learning Mandarin through fun activities, songs, puppets and play. We FOCUS on verbal communication instead of written Chinese in our classes. All classes are held in North Vancouver. |
